Product of the Month

JAX
Looking for a better black patina for your lead, solder, and zinc framing? We recently tried Jax Chemical's "Pewter Black" and were very impressed with the resulting finish and it's ease of use. It produces a dark, black antique finish on pewter, lead, brass, bronze, copper, nickel, tin-lead alloys, and solders.
Come in for a demonstration today and see if you agree with us on the results!

Note From Jim & Rose:
March was a very busy and exciting month at Blue Moon Glassworks. In addition to our ongoing classes in stained glass and glass fusing, we hosted a couple of exciting classes in our flameworking studio.
In early March we had a 4 day class with Dustin Tabor & Stephanie Sersich and then at the end of the month we had a 5 day class with Loren Stump. The instruction in these classes was top notch and the quality of the work produced by the students reflected that. We hope you'll enjoy seeing the pictures on our class galleries of both of the classes..
All three of these instructors put on public demonstrations in our studio. There are pictures from these in our gallery as well. Make time to come by the studio to see some of the incredible work they produced.
We are amazed at the unique energy that each guest instructor brings to our students and to Blue Moon. During their time with us we realize we have found new friends that will always be welcomed back to share their magic with us!
Have a wonderful Spring!!

| Bob's Stained Glass Tip: |
I've recently switched to using JAX Pewter Black to patina zinc fames. The process is the same - use strips of scotch bright pads to clean the zinc, clean the zinc with alcohol, and apply the JAX using the scotch bright pads. The JAX dries quicker and streaking is eliminated. You can also use JAX to finish copper foil projects and the final pewter black finish looks great. This also eliminates the need to have two types of patina (one for foil and one for zinc finishes).
Like any patina process, it's important to clean excess patina off the glass after application to the zinc or lead framing to avoid staining the glass. I recommend that you try JAX or any patina on scrap glass before using on your finished project.
For your convenience, we now carry JAX Pewter Black here at Blue Moon Glassworks. |
Stephanie Sersich & Dustin Tabor: We had such a fun time with Stephanie Sersich & Dustin Tabor. Stephanie's whimsical personality paired with Dustin's attention to detail has a way of helping others tap into their own unique creativity. Stephanie just published her first book. So if you are looking for something to get your creative juices flowing, we've got her book at the store and online.
Please view the pictures from their class here. |

Loren Stump: Loren Stump taught an incredible class this month. His class took Murrini, sculptural work and encasement to a whole new level. Check out the class photos and see their fabulous paper weights.

| Lisa's Lampworkers Tip: |
Loren Stump showed us that the Tungsten Pick can be repointed by introducing it just beyond the candles of the flame & heating it there until the tip is white hot and it will repoint itself. The excess will fall offf. |
We'd love to hear directly from you! If you have something you'd like to share in the newsletter, or have any questions about classes or products, please let us know.
