Blue Moon Glassworks

Coming all the way from the Venetian island of Murano, Italy, we welcome Davide Penso, who will be instructing students in the centuries-old art of blown glass beads.

This two day class focuses on the techniques and skills needed for making hollow glass beads with a blow pipe.

Day one begins with information about the tools and the process of blowing. He will then demonstrate a round blown bead on the torch, and show the use of transparent and opaque glass as well as encasing, frits, and simple decorations like dots, spirals and zig zags. Following each in-depth demonstration, students will have the opportunity to make their own blown beads.

Day two progresses to the intermediate stage of blowing, shaping, and designing symmetric patterns on the beads. There will also be an exploration of silver foil with a special combination of glass colors.

Tuition: $525.
