Martin Cheek
2 Day Fusing Class
Martin Cheek is a pioneer in the use of hand made glass fusions in mosaics. He first started incorporating fused glass into his mosaic work more than thirty years ago, and has become a well-known master of the process.
Students who have taken his courses over the years have enjoyed the opportunity to choose and utilize his fused glass pieces in their own creations. This has proven to be so popular with students, and many have asked to learn the process of making their own glass fusions.
This course offers you that opportunity.
The course will involve lots of hands-on work creating mosaic fusions to use in your own mosaic creations.
Practical demonstrations, slide-show presentations, and individual instruction will ensure that each student learns the art and skill of creating their own glass fusions, and in the process, learn more about their own creative personal style.
Students will bring their own image design or inspirational reference to inspire their own original handmade glass fusions. These resulting glass fusions will then be used as part of their mosaic work.
Glass cutting, shaping techniques and design elements and techniques will be covered.

Adding Personality to your Mosaics: Moving your Mosaic Artistry to the Next Level
This unique course aims to make you think about the character and personality of your mosaic. It asks: What is your mosaic about?...and I don't just mean - a fish or a landscape...WHAT is it about that particular fish or landscape that you are trying to say? What effect do you want your mosaic to have upon the viewer? What emotional response are you trying to achieve?
The course provides an opportunity for those who are new to the wonderful craft of mosaic making to learn the basic skills and for those who are experienced, to further develop their personal style and creativity.
Martin includes a combination of informative lectures, including the history and manufacture of smalti and millefiori, Roman mosaic techniques, and his fusing techniques and creative process. He will give demonstrations and individual help to ensure you go home fully inspired and equipped to continue making mosaics at home.
