Beginner Classes
Beginner's Copper Foil Stained Glass

Students learn all the basics of the art of stained glass including glass cutting techniques, design considerations, copper foil construction, soldering and framing a stained glass panel.
Students will complete a copper foil project. We have many patterns to choose from, or you can supply one of your own (subject to approval). Tools and materials are not supplied. Glass, tools and supplies will run approximately $400-$500 and are available for purchase at Blue Moon. (These expenses will be spread out over the 6 weeks.) If you have your own tools, please bring them to class. (It is advised not to do stained glass while you are pregnant.)

Art Strips Stained Glass

This stained glass art strip project is a great introduction to leaded stained glass construction, whether you are just interested in having fun making this single panel, or trying to decide if this is an art form that you wish to continue with.
In this 3 hour workshop, you will learn how to make simple glass cuts, frame in lead, and solder. You get to select from a large selection of 3" wide pieces of beautiful stained glass. Find all of your favorite colors! Your finished panel's length will be about 15"-20" long, and you will be shown how to solder hangers at the top so that you can display your talent with pride!
No experience required and all tools and supplies are provided. (It is advised not to do stained glass while you are pregnant.)

Stained Glass Kwirky Birds

Add a little springtime color to your window year-round with a whimsical suncatcher you’ve made yourself. In this 3 hour class, students will make one Kwirky Bird (choose from 4 styles), and learn to cut the glass, wrap it with lead, solder the pieces together and add that final kwirky touch of silliness with a decorative wire tail or top-notch. No experience needed. All tools and materials provided. (It is advised not to do stained glass while you are pregnant.)

Stained Glass Feathers

Get an introduction to copper foil stained glass construction while making a fun and colorful feather sun-catcher. In this 3 1/2 hour workshop, you will learn basic glass cutting, foiling and soldering. Then, for a unique extra touch, add a few colored Czech-glass beads if you like. This is also a good way to "try your hand" at stained glass to see if you want to advance on to the complete 6-week class. (It is advised not to do stained glass while you are pregnant.) All materials provided, with some beautiful glass to select from!

Stained Glass Snowflake

It may not snow here often, but you can still have some fun with snowflakes. Enjoy making holiday gifts or decorations while learning some new techniques to create a one-of-a-kind colorful leaded stained glass snowflake! You will learn how to cut glass into diamond shapes, wrap them and glass nuggets in lead came, then solder them together. We will have an assortment of colored and textured glass to choose from. No experience necessary, all materials provided. (It is advised not to do stained glass while you are pregnant.)

Glass Cutting Class

Have you ever wanted to sharpen your glass cutting skills? This class is a great opportunity for that. This 3 hour class focuses only on glass cutting. We introduce various styles of glass cutters and their proper use. As well as the appropriate tools to best run the score - running pliers, breaker/grozing pliers and Ringstar pliers.
You will also learn how to cut to a pattern, cut circles and inside curves. There will be a demonstration on strip cutting on the Morton Glass Works Portable Glass Shop.

In this 3-week class, students will learn the copper foil technique of stained glass by building on the skills they learned in the lead stained glass class. This will include copper foil construction, soldering, framing and patina application. This is designed as a condensed class based on the difference between lead and copper foil. Some work outside of class will be necessary. You will choose from several basic beginner patterns for their class project. Tools and materials not provided. Note: It is a prerequisite to have taken the 6 week lead stained glass class.
IMPORTANT: Before the 1st class, students will need to come to Blue Moon Glassworks to pick out their pattern and buy glass for their project. Then bring your glass, pattern, and glass cutting tools to the 1st class. (It is advised not to do stained glass while you are pregnant.)

Add that extra spark of light and ambience to any room with a stained glass lamp you’ve made yourself! In this 5 week intermediate copper foil stained glass class, you will make a 3-panel lamp consisting of 1 patterned panel and 2 side panels of solid glass. You can either design your own pattern or we have pattern books that you select a pattern from. Copper foil stained glass skills required. (It is advised not to do stained glass while you are pregnant.)
Please come to the first class equipped with cutting tools (which include: cutter, running pliers, breaking pliers, ruler, sharpies, and safety glasses), your pattern (6” wide by 12” high) and your glass.

Decorative Soldering and Wire-Work

Interested in adding some pizzazz and flair to your stained glass artwork? In this class you will learn some techniques in decorative soldering on copper foil or lead lines and zinc frame, incorporating ball-chain and glass nuggets, and making wire-work embellishments including spirals and abstract shapes.
The majority of the class is demonstration, but then you will practice a few of these techniques on a sample panel of plain glass. You will also receive a handout detailing all these tips and techniques.
Previous experience in basic soldering is required. (It is advised not to do stained glass while you are pregnant.)

Repair of Stained Glass Panels: Demonstration
Students will see a demonstration on how to replace a broken piece of glass in both a copper foil and a leaded glass panel, and be shown how to remove, repair, and replace a section of the panel's frame.
Students will receive a comprehensive handout describing the processes demonstrated. No hands-on in this class. Students will need a basic understanding of stained glass construction.
